**TL;DR:** ChabuLab is where I, Châu Bùi, publish what I build. Right now that is Ribbon, a scrolling-strip window manager for macOS, and ChabuLab Tools, free tools for creators that run entirely in the browser. This blog is where I write about both.

## What is ChabuLab?

ChabuLab is my small studio, and the name on the things I make. There is no big team behind it. The products are small and focused, and I would rather do one thing well than many things halfway.

## What does ChabuLab make?

Two things, for now: an app for the Mac and a set of tools for the browser.

**Ribbon** is a window manager for macOS. It puts your windows side by side on one horizontal strip that is wider than the screen, and you move along it with a three-finger swipe. It needs macOS 14 or later and runs on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Ribbon is still in development. The [introduction to Ribbon](/blogs/introducing-ribbon) explains how it works, and [ribbon.chabulab.com](https://ribbon.chabulab.com) has the facts.

**ChabuLab Tools** are free tools for creators that run in the browser. Nothing is uploaded: decoding, mixing and encoding all happen on your own computer. Two are built so far:

- **Long Mix Builder** turns a set of tracks into one long mix, with transitions, optional ambience such as rain or a quiet café, loudness matching and chapter lists.
- **Quick Mosaic** gives a photo a stained-glass or mosaic look, and saves it at print size if you need it.

A loudness checker, a timed lyrics maker, a thumbnail and title preview, and a tracklist-to-chapters generator are planned.

## Why write a blog?

To explain how these things work and why they are built the way they are, in plain words. Some decisions are easier to understand with the reasons next to them.

The posts are Markdown files kept in git, so every change has a date. Each post is also available as plain Markdown: add `.md` to its address, for example [/blogs/hello-from-chabulab.md](/blogs/hello-from-chabulab.md).
